Why Join the Uhuru Walk VT Program?

At Uhuru Walk, we believe every child deserves the chance to learn and grow. Our Volunteering Teacher (VT) program is one of the first in Dar es Salaam, designed to increase literacy among children who need it most. By joining us, you’ll be part of a dedicated team working to bridge the educational gap and empower young minds through the power of English literacy, and a range of skills.

What We Offer

  • Meaningful Impact: As a Volunteering Teacher, you’ll directly influence the lives of children by helping them develop essential literacy skills. Your efforts will not only improve their academic performance but also boost their confidence and open doors to new opportunities.
  • Flexible Commitment: We understand that your time is valuable. That’s why we ask for a minimum commitment of just three months. This allows you to make a significant impact without overwhelming your schedule.
  • Certification: Upon completion of your volunteering period, you’ll receive a certificate recognising your contribution. This is a great addition to your resume and a testament to your dedication to community service.
  • Convenient Schedule: Classes are held every Saturday from 3:00 PM to 5:15 PM, making it easy for you to participate without disrupting your weekday responsibilities.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking committed, curious, and driven individuals who are passionate about education and community service. Whether you’re a seasoned educator or someone with a love for teaching and a desire to give back, we welcome you to join our team. No prior teaching experience is required – just a willingness to learn and make a difference.

How to Get Involved

New Volunteering Teachers have already started on February 15th, and we have openings available for those ready to take on this rewarding role. Here’s how you can become part of our program:

  1. Apply: Reach out to us to express your interest in joining the VT program. We’ll provide you with all the necessary information and guide you through the application process.
  2. Train: Once accepted, you’ll receive training to prepare you for your role as a Volunteering Teacher. Our training sessions are designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively teach English literacy to the children we serve.
  3. Teach: Begin your journey as a VT and start making a difference! You’ll work with a group of children, helping them improve their reading and writing skills while fostering a love for learning.
  4. Reflect: Throughout your time with us, you’ll have the opportunity to reflect on your experiences and see the impact of your work in real-time. It’s a fulfilling way to give back and grow personally and professionally.

The Impact of Your Contribution

By joining the Uhuru Walk VT program, you’re not just teaching English – you’re changing lives. Literacy is a fundamental skill that opens up a world of possibilities for children. It empowers them to pursue their dreams, communicate effectively, and contribute to their communities. Your efforts will help create a ripple effect, benefiting not only the children you teach but also their families and the broader community.
