What is Uhuru Walk 8?

The Uhuru Walk is an annual event that brings together people from all walks of life to support learning for the most disadvantaged children of our society, and how the power of collective action can make a difference. This year marks the eighth edition of the walk, and it’s set to be bigger and better than ever. The event provides a fantastic opportunity for participants to enjoy a scenic route and healthy exercise and supports a focus area that benefits our community.

A Day of Fun and Fitness

The Uhuru Walk is designed for everyone, whether you’re a fitness enthusiast or just looking for a fun day out with family and friends. Our event features a variety of activities to keep you entertained and active:

• Walkathon: Enjoy a scenic 9.5 km walk through the picturesque routes of Dar-es-Salaam. It’s the perfect way to exercise while taking in the beauty of our city.
• Cycling Event: For those who prefer two wheels, join our cycling event and pedal your way to fitness.
• Treasure Hunt: Team up with friends or family for our exciting treasure hunt. Solve cryptic clues and race against other teams to find hidden treasures. It’s a test of cooperation, wit, and intelligence!
• Wild Card Contest: Be prepared for a surprise challenge that will test your skills in unexpected ways. Past contests have included life-size Tic-Tac-Toe and Scrabble, and this year promises to be just as thrilling.

Make a Difference

All proceeds from the event go towards supporting Uhuru Walk’s mission to provide English literacy and cognitive skills education to children from underprivileged backgrounds. Your participation helps us:

Educate Disadvantaged Children: Our programs focus on developing language and creative thinking and interpretation skills, moving beyond rote memorisation to true understanding.

Empower Young Minds: We aim to prepare our students for success in an increasingly dynamic world, giving them the tools they need to thrive.

Recognition and Awards: If your team initiates raising funds sufficient to cover a child’s scholarship, you will receive special mention at the event, but if you fall short, you will still be recognised

Our team of photographers and videographers will be on hand to capture every moment of the Uhuru Walk. From the start to the finish line, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to snap photos and create lasting memories. Plus, our photobooths along the route are perfect for those Instagram-worthy shots!

How to Register

Registering for the Uhuru Walk is easy and quick. Simply visit our website at uhuruwalk.org and fill out the registration form. You can also register on the day of the event at Masaki Sports Park, but we recommend signing up in advance to secure your spot and avoid the rush.

• Registration Fee: 15,000 TZS (under 18 years) and 25,000 TZS (for over 18 years of age)
