If your answer is yes, then you are invited to join Uhuru Walk’s Jamii Scholarship drive, a unique and innovative way of raising funds for early years language learning for disadvantaged children.
What is Uhuru Walk?
Uhuru Walk is an annual event that promotes early years language learning for disadvantaged children. It is a fun and exciting walkathon, treasure hunt and cycling event that attracts over a thousand participants every year. Uhuru Walk has been running for eight years and has dedicated its efforts towards giving a solid foundation to children in spoken and written English. The idea is to break down the language barrier which in later life becomes a hindrance to the opening up of opportunities for Tanzania youth.
What is the Jamii Scholarship?
Jamii Scholarship is a new initiative by Uhuru Walk that aims to provide scholarships for disadvantaged children to pursue their education. Jamii means community, society, or people in Swahili, and it reflects the spirit of Uhuru Walk: our resilience, commitment, and community spirit.
Jamii Scholarship is a scholarship portfolio in which the whole amount is split into smaller units to allow everyone to contribute towards the upliftment of disadvantaged children’s learning. Each unit is worth TZS 100,000/ and can support one child for one year of education. You can donate as many units as you wish, or you can join a team of donors to pool your resources together.
Born through Meadows Schools, Uhuru Walk is an initiative that works to inculcate vital English Literacy and Cognitive Skills in children who come from less fortunate backgrounds. Presently, we are educating 25+ children weekly and the number grows continually.

Access to many
Many disadvantaged children do not have access to quality English language learning due to many reasons. Jamii Scholarship will help them improve their learning journey and offer quality education and a conducive learning environment, complete with modern learning tools and resources.
Equity for all
The nation’s strength lies in the ability of its citizens to propel the economy using their individual and collective skill sets. More often than not, not speaking the language leaves our youth far behind their counterparts even in neighbouring countries. Investing in the young is particularly viable because it builds a strong foundation.
Quality
Many children, especially those in public schools, do not receive adequate instruction or individual attention, materials, or assessment due to low teacher qualifications, high pupil-teacher ratios, or insufficient resources. Jamii Scholarship will help them access well-trained teachers, and provide adequate facilities, and relevant curricula.
